Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings — Soul of a Woman

As I mentioned last time, we just discovered Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Like, last month. We had heard of them a few years back, and there was much talk when Sharon Jones died in 2016, but we really didn’t pay the music any attention until last month, when we picked up “Soul Time!” and got a taste of what we had been missing.

So, a month later, back to the Forever Changes popup sale, and I had to grab another record. This one, “Soul of a Woman,” was the last one they recorded, while she was fighting cancer. I knew the dancing funk of “Soul Time!” wasn’t really representative of the band’s overall style, but wanted to hear more anyway, and man, this is reflective, heartfelt soul. As I write this, I’ve had it for all of a week, so I may come back to say more at some point, but for now, it’s just a great album.
