Parliament – Up For the Down Stroke
Well, back in the F’s, I wrote a whole bunch about Funkadelic. Then I got into the P’s (to show how slowly this project is going, that was last August!), but the only Parliament record I had to write about was Chocolate City. As I said then, I have a couple of P-Funk collections on CD, but never had this stuff on vinyl. So now I’m starting to correct for that. This album, originally released a mere 50 years ago, in 1974, was one of my first purchases at the start of this year.
What more can I say? These days, when I don’t know what I want to play, I play funk. It makes my wife dance, so why would I not?
Yay!!!
My daughter asked me to make her a funk playlist on Spotify a few months ago, which I happily did . . . . but after my first draft, I decided that 30+ P-Funk songs on a 100-song list was probably excessive, and had to cull and edit significantly.
Two cuts from this one still made the final listing (title track and “Testify”), and then I had to make separate Soul Playlist so I could include “All Your Goodies Are Gone.”
It’s well known that a PFunk playlist, like a PFunk party, don’t stop 😉
