April March – April March Meets Staplin

That last April March acquisition, “In Cinerama,” left such an impression on me that when it was announced she would have a new release for Record Store Day 2023, there was no question in my mind I’d be looking for it. I had literally no idea who Staplin was, and I pretty much didn’t care. Turns out they’re a French duo producing pop/psych/triphop synthy music, or something like it.

Like “In Cinerama,” it’s a little tricky to say what this is. But it doesn’t matter: I like it. It occupies a special niche of somewhat dreamy, atmospheric music, something I don’t have a lot of. It also fits in well with my mild French pop obsession, given that April March is probably far better known for her French releases than anything else.

And, rarity of rarities, it’s a record I bought when it was released! That doesn’t happen a lot.
