The Courettes – Hold On, We’re Comin’

Okay, I love The Courettes, but I have to admit – I’m still not quite sure what I’m listening to here. The few promotions or reviews of this 2024 album don’t make it clearer. What I thought it would be was The Courettes covering some classics. What it turns out to be is more like The Courettes playing along with, or getting mixed into, some classic recordings (or vice versa – it’s hard to tell how much of the originals versus how much Courettes there is on any given track).

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that I still don’t quite know what’s what here – what vocals and instruments they provided, compared to the original tracks they’re covering, blanketing even. The liner notes describe The Courettes as the “backing band” for these classics. So, in all, interesting, but confusing.
